Noise Research is the alter-ego of UK Sound Artist / Musician Ian Simpson.
He has adopted an uncompromising approach in composition, improvisation, playing and technique which has led to his involvement as a performer with Kipple (Sheffield), Wire Assembly (Sheffield), ‘The Frakture Big Band’ (Liverpool), Noise Club (Liverpool), Concrete Bunker (Liverpool) and ‘Gnod’ (Manchester). He also actively organises and promotes performances in UK including the Pyramid Experimental Music Festival and Manchester based Electronic Organica Nights. Ian has just finished the soundtrack to 4 short films by London based film-maker David Sant. In 2012 Ian performed with Rhys Chathams ‘Crimson Grail’ for 100 guitarists at Liverpool Cathedral (under the direction of Rhys Chatham). He has also recorded with Herve Perez, Fonik, Anton Mobin, Richard Knight, Shaun Blezard, Victor Ward, Kipple, Black Forest Orchestra, Id of Mobius and Wire Assembly. Ian is a regular performer at the Frakture ‘Centrifuge’ events, the Manchester based ‘The Noise Upstairs’ and Blank Canvas in Liverpool. 2013 saw performances at Xposed Club, The Vortex Jazz Club and The Bluecoat Arts Centre (in the Fluxus Festival). 2014 has seen another performance with Rhys Chatham (A Secret Rose), further gigs at the Vortex and new projects with Shaun Blezard (Yeah Yeah Industrial), Anthony Donovan and Charlie Collins (Kurouzu). Ian also took part in the recent Gizeh Records Eternal Returning Arkestra performance at this years Fat Out Festival at Islington Mill with, amongst others Charles Hayward, Horrid and Nadja.
