James Wyness

James Wyness is a composer and performer whose music is defined first and foremost by its sonic attributes, by the morphology, materiality and complexity of abstracted sounds, by their ability to combine and contrast, and by their movement in space. His current research, largely in collaboration with Italian composer Giancarlo Toniutti, converges on specific definitions of music based on sound, as opposed to concepts, music history or techniques, and takes account of findings from evolutionary biology, anthropology, semiology, cultural history and linguistics. He has made work and performed internationally at residencies and festivals for many years. His work is released on several specialist labels.
