The Metanast collective is very pleased to kindle our 2016 season with a very special event, combining a diverse programme from prolific local and international artists, hosted at Manchester’s newest creative hub in the Northern Quarter, Texture.
Monday 22 February 2016
Texture, 67 Lever St, Manchester M1 1FL
19:30 – 23:00
The duo of Diemo Schwarz and Hans Leeuw challenge each other on the extremities of sound through an improvised physical-digital battle play between modified trumpet and digital processing.
Modular virtuoso Richard Scott is no stranger to Metanast, with his improvised universe of analogue tones having honoured are speakers on many occasions. Partnering Richard for this special event is local legend Jason Singh, whose passion for exploring and combining human voice and electronics has led him to collaborate with artist such as Graham Massey, Leafcutter John, and Tim Exile.
Metanast’s resident noise herder will be presenting the latest iteration of his ongoing project Symbiosis. Developed as part of his research on collaborative interdisciplinary performance, Manoli Moriaty abuses analogue audio equipment into howling feedback drones, tamed by soothing digital processing. The effects are controlled by gestural devices attached on Shona Roberts, one of Manchester’s most talented and hard-working dancers, whose movement will be informed by aural and visual cues.
Lecturer at the Leeds College of Music, Rob Bentall’s continued works on hybridity between electroacoustic music and EDM has been at the forefront of academic research. Rob will be performing a live piece for nyckelharpa and computer.
